Ricepunk [rīs pəNGk]:
1) [n] a sub-genre of speculative fiction that envisions an alternate history of the world had it chosen fire and gunpowder instead of electricity as its main source of machine power.
2) [n] the Eastern counterpoint to the Western conceived genre of Steampunk.
3) [n] a speculative universe invented and created by SRChan
NB: Ricepunk is a word that I found circulating on the internet whilst doing my final year university research into genre, Steampunk and Asian Steampunk. The word/genre “ricepunk” does not yet exist. This website and it’s contents attempts to popularise and create a fan base for Ricepunk so that it can be culturally understood and recognised as a genre in its own right. Finally, the above definitions are self written definitions owned by myself. If you wish to use them, please contact me or give credit where it is due.
Hi, i wanted to use this definition of ricepunk in my thesis paper as well. How should i cite you
Hi Mudit!
Apologies for the late reply – I clearly let this project go to the wayside.
I am not sure the best way to site this, but I am happy for you to use the website and just “Chan, S.R.”.
Thanks,
SRChan
